In a week where the January sales have come early to the High Street there is some even better bargain hunting to be had online. A combination of price comparison websites and discount codes can knock as much as 50% off your online shopping this Christmas.

In October 8.8 million people visited discount code websites according to Nielsen Online and Shopsafe.co.uk has seen a massive increase in searches for Discount Codes.

"Savvy consumers now start their online shopping trips by looking for discount codes, almost before they have decided what to buy. Retailers have cottoned onto this and this year there has been an explosion of online discount codes" says Simon Crisp at Shopsafe.co.uk

Shopsafe is expecting online shopping to peak in the first week of December with a rush to secure the best discount codes to get the most money off. Some retailers are using them to pass on the Chancellors cut in VAT. Dixons for example are offering 3% off all orders with the discount code "VAT3" under the headline "Beat that Darling"

Shopsafe has vouchers for some of the most popular gifts this Christmas. For Watches - Buy one get one half price at Goldsmiths, 20% off at New Look, 10% off everything at electrical retailer Empire Direct, 3% off at Dixons, 10% off Toys at Hamleys, 5% off Halfords and 10% off flowers at Teleflorist.
