Nintendo launches e-commerce platform in the UK

Last month console manufacturer and videogame purveyor, Nintendo, made it possible for customers to buy its products directly from an official e-commerce site.

As well as being able to pick up a Wii U or 3DS online, British consumers can splash out on a wide variety of games to play on their console of choice.

TechRadar reports that for those who spend £200 or more in a single order, next day delivery will be included free of charge, which is an appealing touch.

If your spend is less than this amount, then free standard delivery is available, with typical dispatches taking about three working days to arrive, as is typical for any e-commerce service.

There are other incentives available for those who decide to shop online with Nintendo, as all consoles purchased from this platform get an extended year-long warranty, to increase the amount of coverage above and beyond the standard agreement.

Nintendo said that it is committed to offering top quality customer support and advice through its e-commerce channel, and interestingly, the UK is one of the only countries in the world to have this type of direct shopping experience from the Japanese firm, perhaps because of our booming online economy.

Of course, one thing which might prevent consumers from shopping with Nintendo is the fact that other online retailers, like Amazon, have been heavily discounting the Wii U and other products like it to shift stock.

Bargain hunters may look elsewhere for official Nintendo products, although with price reductions and perks also on the cards from the company, it could be capable of winning over some of its target audience. Other console manufacturers have similar direct purchase schemes, so Nintendo's arrival on the scene makes competitive sense.
