People who carry out shopping online with Morrisons now have the option to have their groceries delivered to their door within 60 minutes, thanks to the fact that the supermarket giant is partnering with e-commerce titan, Amazon.

Subscribers to Amazon Prime will be able to use the Prime Now delivery service for one hour delivery at a cost of £6.99 per order. Anyone who is willing to wait for up to two hours to receive their goods will not have to pay a penny extra, which is advantageous for the more flexible consumers in the UK.

While this service is only being offered in a limited number of areas for the time being, a wider rollout may be embraced in the near future if it is successful.

One of the main reasons that Morrisons is working with Amazon on safe shopping online is that by harnessing its existing delivery infrastructure, it does not need to invest significant sums to replicate its capabilities.

Morrisons chief exec, David Potts, said that the Morrisons at Amazon service was an important step towards making grocery shopping more convenient and cost-effective for customers across the country.

Shoppers who want to make the most of this delivery option will need to do so via the Prime Now app, rather than through Morrisons own site. And of course, paying the £80 a year for the Prime subscription is also a requisite.

While supermarkets like Tesco and Sainsbury’s have offered online ordering capabilities for over a decade, Morrisons took a lot longer to enter this marketplace. In spite of this fact, it has made use of partnerships with other companies to make up for lost time and could make a big impact following the announcement of one hour delivery availability.
