This week, it was revealed that Domino's Pizza now sees 70 per cent of all its sales made via safe shopping online, with its customers migrating away from ordering over the phone, in favour of arranging deliveries through the firm?s desktop site and mobile apps.

Sales as a whole were up by almost 15 per cent in the first three months of the year, while online sales alone rose by a quarter, passing the £100 million market for the first time.

About a third of the orders placed online with Domino's Pizza now originate from smartphones and tablets, indicating that there is a kind of trend within a trend, as e-commerce performance is being influenced by portable device usage.

Company spokesperson, Stephen Hemsley, said that there will be up to 50 new Domino's Pizza outlets opening up across the UK over the course of 2014, giving it an even more extensive reach, to offer delivery services to people from all corners of the country.

Of course, Domino's is in a particularly good position to benefit from online shopping, because it has always got its products out to consumers as quickly as possible, no matter what method is used to place an order.

In addition, the use of an automated e-commerce service to handle inbound orders means that staff resources are not monopolised by having to deal with customers over the phone or in person.

Every few months it is reported that Domino's Pizza has made yet more progress in the online market. And at the current rate, it would seem likely that quite soon, almost every one of the orders which are placed with the firm will be conducted through the web, marking a significant milestone for the industry as a whole.
